FAR EAST FLEET
Missile Ships Next Year (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, Oct. 28. British naval strength in South-East Asia would be increased to preserve the peace of the area, the commander-in-chief of the Far East Fleet. Sir Desmond Dreyer, said today. New missile-carrying destroyers would join the fleet next year, he said. The fleet’s manpower already built up from 8500 to 13.000 over the last three years, would be further increased. The fleet comprised two aircraft carriers, a cruiser, 12 destroyers, submarines, minesweepers and many auxiliary vessels such as supply ships and tankers. Based in Singapore, it includes two Australian ships and a recently-arrived commando carrier.
