TWO ANTARCTIC ’PHONE CALLS
Admiral Reedy’s Plans Rear-Admirel J. R. Reedy, commander of the United States Navy’s Antarctic support force, will probably make two public telephone calls between Christchurch and McMurdo Sound during Antarctic Week. Hie first call will be L.m the Antarctic, when Admiral Reedy’s address to the crowd attending “open house” at the airport will be broadcast over the public-address system. That will be on Sunday. November 10. On Thursday. Nbvember 14. if everything goes as planned, Admiral Reedy will pick up a telephone on the stage of the Civic Theatre and call ( us second-in-oonunand (Captain M W Nicholson), who will be at McMurdo Sound Admiral Reedy will be attending the civic function arranged for Antarctic Week.
Confrontation.— Malaysian aborigines today holed an effigy of the Indonesian President (Dr. Soekarno) with poison darts from blow pipes and later gleefully set the effigy on fire.—Kuala Lumpur, Oct. 27.
