HOUSE LOST IN FIRE
Young Couple’s Escape (N.Z. Press Association) MASTERTON, August 18. A young Tainui couple and their thnre-motMhs-old son escaped today from their blazing house with minutes to spare because the mother awoke ait 5 a_m. to feed the child. Mrs L. George smelled smoke and roused her farm worker husband. He grabbed the bassinet and ran out of the house. Within 10 minutes their five-roomed Masrterton County Council house was an inferno. Nothing eke was saved, and the consents were not insured. The only other three witnesses to the blaze stood helplessly by while the rest of Tainui township slept. There is no fire-fighting equipment there. The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen. Congo Leader. — Mr Edouard Bulundwe. aged 31. has been elected the first President of the new Congo province of East Katanga. Mr Bulundwe is considered to be a strong supporter of he Central Congolese Government.—London. August 14.
