TUHOE OFF BAR
Aground For Two Days
Aground on the bar at the mouth of the Waimakariri river for two days, the Kaiapoi Shipping Company’s vessel, Tuhoe, was refloated yesterday about 11.30 a.m.l The vessel went aground when attempting to enter the port of Kaiapoi on Saturday morning. The Tuhoe was refloated about an hour before high tide yesterday morning with the help of a bulldozer taking the
the strain on a steel hawser. An attempt tn refloat the vessel at high tide at midnight on Sunday failed narrowly. The vessel then got its bow into the channel. The Tuhoe will be inspected for possible damage and after unloading will go to Lyttelton if necessary for further inspection. The Paroto was diverted to Lyttelton because the hawser to the Tuhoe was across the channel at the time of her arrival. Three other vessels have been tied up at the port because of the unfavourable bar conditions. Although the hawser to the Tuhoe was cleared from the channel before high tide unfavourable conditions again prevented their leaving port.
