STARTING GATES
No Policy Formed No decision had been made by the committee not to use Ebe s orting garte at future meetings even though no such races had been included in the programme for the national meeting next month, said the president (Mr J. K. Davidson) at the annual meeting of she New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting dub las: night. Mr Davidson was replying to Mr B J. Wilks who had said that he had assumed that as the Starting gate was not to be used at the national meeting. the club had decided against its future use He felt that the innovation had been copied from the United States where fields were smaller and opportunities were greater than in this country.
The gate was not popular with owners. nor with drivers with whom he had discussed it. The drivers felt that the gate was dangerous Members of the public had not shown they they had wanted to see the gate in action, added Mr Wilks.
