UNIVERSITY CONCERT
Piston’s Flute Quintet
The lunch-time concert to be given this Thursday at 1.10 pun. in the University HAU will be devoted, appropriately. since it is Independence Day, to music by the United States composer, Waiter Pirtoet.
The Flute Quintet is a work for which the composer has a high regard. This ia to be expected perhapa, because not only has he produced several string quartets, but also he has sKown a marked predilection for the flute as a solo instrument in works such as the Flute Sonets and the famotu Orchestral work. "The Incredible Flautist." Piston, who is a professor at Harvard University, ia one of America's best-known teachers.
The AJard Quartet will be joined by the wife at the violinist for this performance. Mrs Overda Page has been aseoctoted with the quartet in performances of this work before. To complete the programme the quartet wtii perform some miniatures from Bartok’s “Mikrokoßnas.”
