Raise For Shop Assistants

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 1. The Arbitration Court has granted a new award for all general retail shop assistants, except those in the northern industrial district, with effect from May 29. Under the terms of the award, male assistants receive increases varying between 9s and 14s lOd a week, and increases to female assistants range from 3s to 8s Bd. Branch and departmental managers receive increases of up to 13s Bd, and display and advertising workers up to Us. Increases of up to 8s 9d have been granted to storemen, lift attendants, cleaners and watchmen.

An unqualified preference clause has been included in the award.
