Notable Feat By Pale Face

AUCKLAND, June 30.

Pale Face accomplished the notable feat of collecting a good middle-distance handicap at his first time in open company when he won the £l4OO Rawson Handicap at Avondale yesterday.

In the process he dealt sex erely with 20 opponents, several of which were handicap horses of considerable prominence. Gay Parade was closest at th© finish but half a dozen lengths away.

Pals Face won getting to the front and staying there. His rider, D. A. Raklander, took him along confidently with the pacemaking and he was steadying his mount down at the finish with the others beaten off. It was an impressive gallop.

Cray Parade and Craddock had a hard battle for toe minor placings and they were followed in closely by the veteran Uppercut end Stella Summa. The owner-train er of Pale Fnce, Mr M. L. Dillan, of Pnpakuna. who ateo bred the home, has been recovering during the test week from an accident. In the meantime his instructions for Pale Face's preparation have been carried out excellently by P. K. Cathro. who rode the gelding in several of his hack claws engagements. As well as saddling Pale Face for toe big race Cathro won the Windsor Hurdles an Pin Money, so he had a very good 4av indeed. Caith.ro was a first-class light-weight rider in hla younger days and although he has restricted opportunities. he is still a fine horseman.
