Indoor Bowls MRS BLACKLER WINS FINAL
Open Tournament On Saturday Slightly superior bowling by an Arawa team, skipped by V Blackler, won the final of the Canterbury Indoor Bowls Association open tournament held on Saturday. Blackler's team beat the U.F.S. side, skipped by E. G. J. Smith, by 14-9. The teams were:—Arawa: Mrs G. Barton (lead), Mr G. Barton (second) and Mrs Blackler (third). U.F.S.: Mrs W. Cooper. Mr M. Penny and Mr Cooper. Both had rather easy wins in the semi-finals, Blackler beating Mrs E. Gourlay (Linwood avenue!, 13-6. and Smith winning in his match against N. Hocking (Linwood avenue) by 10-3. However, Smith’s closest game was against S. Sneddon (Linwood) in a quarterfinal. The teams were even on the second -last end but Smith managed to get one shot on the last to win, 4-3. Results of the other quarterfinals were:—Mrs Gourlay beat S. Tridd (Riccarton), 9-2; Hocking beat G. Forrester (Arawa), 12-8; Blackler beat W. Gourlay (Linwood avenue), 8-4.
