GEOPHYSICAL MAPS

New Series To Appear Soon A series of £our-miles-to-the-inch maps of gravity anomalies is to be produced by the Geological Survey of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. The Christchurch sheet is likely to be one of the earliest to appear. The first will be the North Cape sheet, covering northern Northland. “Gravity data can be important in locating mineral deposits, besides the intrinsic scientific interest,” the director of fte Geophysics Division (Dr. E. I. Robertson) said in introducing the new series. The sheets in the series will cover the same areas as those of the Geological Survey map sheets at the same scale. The geophysical sheets will include some geological information so that the geology and geophysics of a district may be readily related.
