Obituary MR C. A. TUCKER
Mr Clarence Albert Tucker, who died in Christchurch on Saturday, was awarded the D.C.M. for his action during an incident in France in March, 1918. He was 68. Mr Tucker was a corporal in the Ist Battalion of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade. An immaculately uniformed French officer went to Corporal Tucker's post and told a platoon officer that a French regiment wanted to come through the lines. Later, the New Zealanders saw a mass of infantry advancing shoulder to shoulder. When they were only 200 yards off. Corporal Tucker realised they were Germans. . Corporal Tucker’s machine-guns slowed the advance and the attack failed. The incident was said to have boosted the morale of allied troops. Mr Tucker was a retired builder. His interests included his post as secretary of the Canterbury Association of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
MR H. DIGBY-SMITH

TAUMARUNUI. June 29. The death has occurred at the Taumarunui Hospital of Mr Harold Digby-Smith. He was 73. Formerly chairman of the Social Security Commission and Secretary for War Pensions. Mr Digby-Smith had lived in Taumarunui since he retired in 1947.
He was a justice of the peace and he was active in local body affairs in Taumarunui. He was formerly chairman of the Taumarunui Hospital Board. A keen angler he was at one time president of the Tongariro and Lake Taupo Anglers' Club. He is survived by his wife
MR E. KEIG
Mr Ernest Keig. who spent a lifetime in the dairy industry and who was one of the first advocates of herd testing, died in Ashburton on Tuesday. He was 85 years of age. • Hie family came to Christchurch from England in 1851 and he was born in 1878. After being educated at Normal School. Christchurch. Mr Keig began work in a dairy at Cheviot. He later worked in dairies at Cust and Staveley. and moved early this century to Ashburton where he became factory manager of the Midland Dairy Company. He was well known for his interest in dairy hygiene After retiring from the company about 20 years ago. he became a keen angler and gardener Mr Keig was also a member of the Erewtoon. Cheviot, and Thistle (Ashburton) Masonic Lodges, ■nd a past master of the latter, of which he bad been a member since 1915
He married Margare' Esther Denton on April 15. 1903, at Cheviot.
Mr Keig is survived by three daughters and one son. eight grandchildren and 10
