Sugar
Sir, —The answer to the problem of rises in sugar prices lies in price control, but the Government is opposed to it. Mr Shelton said: “We are a free enterprise party.” How right he is. The “middle-men” always have feasts while the National Party is in power. Increases in prices for cake and confectionery could be< absorbed by the already high prices charged for them. If my system of co-operative marketing under producer control was in operation there would be bulk-purchase agreements, and no “middle-men” to exploit the consumers. Bulkpurchase agreements would mean control of sugar by the producers instead of by vested interests who run the refineries and control the distribution of sugar as well as its prices.—Yours, etc., DISILLUSIONED NATIONALIST.
