Tactile, established a world record when he staged a brilliant performance to win the Victoria Derby at the Melbourne Show Grounds last night. It waa Tactile'* fifth Derby success—a feat never before accomplished either by a galloper or pacer. Tactile. which started favourite ait 10 to 8 on. beat Blazing Globe (New South Wale*) by four yards, with the Victorian colt. Tara Monarch, 10 yard* away third. He ran the 12} furlong* in 326 3-5 a mile rate of 2:11 3-5, which is teec slower than the track record bald by the former New Zeeland champion. Caduceus, and 3sec slower than the race record established by the Victorian three-year-old Arabian is 1960. Tactile, the winner of the New Zealand and Groat Northern Derbies before coming to Australia, has won the classic In South Australia. New South Wales and Victoria. He has now won 13 races and £16,675 in stake money. The champion has been driven in all his Australian races by the Ashburton driver, D. J. Townley. Townley drove a masterly race on Tactile.
