Pace Bowler’s Hat-Trick

(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Mar. 31. The Dunedin club leader of the competition from the early stages of the season, won the senior cricket title in Dunedin on Saturday by defeating Albion on the first innings. It last won the championship in 195657 season. Albion, which had been Dunedin's strongest challenger, was pushed back to third position when Kaikorai defeated Grange outright to finish second. Outstanding individual feat was a hat-trick by the Kaikorai pace bowler, R. Storer, who sent back Grange's first three batsmen in the second innings before a run had been scored. Scores were: Dunedin 197 and 241 for nine (J. Billcliff 66) beat Albion 137 (R. G. Stewart 64) on the first innings. Kaikorai 139 and 180 beat Grange 206 for seven declared and 73 (R. Storer six for 25) outright. Carisbrook 320 and 103 for four declared beat Old Boys 264 (J. P. Huggett 77 not out) and 96 outright. North-east Valley 278 beat University 172 and 183 for four (D. Mclnnes 63) on the first innings. Final points were: Dunedin 141.87, Kaikorai 130.41, Albion 127.69, Grange 122.58, Old Boys 99.43, Carisbrook 96.16, University 77.06, North-east Valley 75.10.
