ROYAL CONCERT
Queen’s Letter Of Thanks
The appreciation of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh for the Royal choral concert held on February 16 has been expressed in a letter from the Queen’s assistant private secretary (Sir Edward Ford) to the chairman of the Christchurch Civic Music Council (Sir James Hay). “I am writing by command of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh to thank you and aU who contributed to the Royal Choral Concert last evening for a most memorable performance,” says the letter. “Her Majesty and His Royal Highness were not only very favourably impressed with the singing of the two choral societies and the playing of the Christchurch Civic Orchestra, but they also shared with the large audience in the enjoyment of a varied and exacting programme. The Queen warmly congratulates the conductors, choirs and orchestra on what was by any standard a most notable performance. “Her Majesty and His Royal Highness were very glad to meet some of those who have helped to make the name of Christchurch famous for its choral singing. They command me to ask you, as chairman of the Christchurch Civic Music Council to convey their appreciation to all who teook part in the concert or in the arrangements for it.”
