Gang Steals £30.000

(N.Z.PA.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 20. Several men armed with pickaxe handles and with nylon stockings over their faces snatched £30,000 at a London gasworks last night. Then they narrowly escaped capture when their getaway ear and lorry crashed with another car in a tunnel not far from the acene at the snatch.

The crash blocked the raiders’ escape route. But before they could be stopped they ran along the tunnel up a pedestrian staircase and disappeared into the back streets of Poplar, an east London suburb. The money, in boxes of wage packets, was stolen from the cashier's office of the South-eastern Gas Board in the London district of East Greenwich. ge
