“LABOUR ONLY” CONTRACTS
F.O.L. To Seek Ban
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Feb. 19. The Federation- of Labour will urge any further Labour Government to refuse to allow the State Advances Corporation to advance money to “labour only” contractors, the president, Mr F. P. Walsh, said tonight. “Labour only” contractors undertake to build for a specified sum regardless of the time involved and, according to the trade union movement, work outside industrial awards and help to whittle them away. Some contracts of this nature have been subject to bans by unions on the supply of materials, with the backing of the federation.
