University Salaries
Sir,—The reported salary increases ranging from £356 to £lO3l granted to the staff of the University of New South Wales was a tit-bit of news too valuable not to be turned to good account by university staff spokesmen in New Zealand. No doubt the novelty of the handsome increases granted in New Zealand within recent times has worn off and one could confidently predict a campaign to condition public opinion to the view that New Zealand university lecturers are poorly treated by way of material rewards compared with their brethren in other parts of the Commonwealth. University lecturers in New Zealand seemingly are no different from the general run of industrial pressure groups in the grab for a larger slice of the economic cake regardless of the other' fellow.—Yours, etc., MODERATION.
