CARRIED OUT ORDER

INVERCARGILL, June 26. Devotion to duty got a young St. John Ambulance cadet into • spot of bother in Invercargill on Saturday. The local district competitions were being held in the YJM.C.A. gymnasium and three faked accidents were set up to test the skill of teams competing. The first competitors were members of a team from Gore, taking part in their first contest. The leader surveyed the scene and turned to the fourth lad in his group. “Ring for a doctor and ambulance,” he instructed. "Tell them there have been three accidents in the Y.M.C.A.”
Number 4 hastened to obey. Remembering his drill he looked around for the telephone which is usually rigged up for competitors and connected to the judges' table. But this time no telephone had been provided so No. 4 zealously slipped past the officials at the door and headed for the public telephone on the landing outside. Dialling 111 be tersely told the operator that three boys had been injured at the Y.M.C.A. gymnasium. Within minutes there was a siren wailing down the street. Number 4 found himself explaining the presence of a real live ambulance at the door.
