A survey of the world telephone systems shows that during 1961 an additional 8,100.000 telephones were installed in 12 of the biggest countries, representing an increase of 6 per cent.

The biggest gain was 13} per cent, in Japan. The increase for Britain was 5 per cent.

The United States leads the list in terms of numbers of telephones for each hundred of population. with 41 Britain is seventh, with 16 Brazil leads the “conversations” table, with 5300 conversations yearly on each telephone. Japan has 2780, the United States had 1265. and Britain 579.
