MELODIC AND MELOTONE

Southland Pair For Ashburton

“The Press" Special Service INVERCARGILL. June 21. The Invercargill trainer, J. Langford, left today for Ashburton with the half-brothers, Melodic and Melotone, wliich are engaged in the Maronan Handicap at the Ashburton meeting on Saturday,

It is unlikely that both will start at Ashburton. If Melotone fares well on the trip north the stable will rely on him in preference to Melodic, which raced disappointingly at the Dunedin meeting. Melotone has been racing solidly, having been placed in three of hiis last five starts, including a second to Kumai in tihe Provincial Handicap st Wingatui at his last appearance. He will be ridden by B. J. Anderton at Ashburton It was intended to race Melodic at the Wellington meeting next month, but this idea was abandoned after his failure at Wingatui. He will now concentrate on the Winter Cup at the Grand National meeting, a race in which he finished second to Fairassar. last August.

Langford- will make his headquarters at Wsshdyke with Melotone and Melodic until he goes on to Riciarton.
