N.Z. TRADE MISSION
First Meeting Of Members (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 21. The New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation todav announced the 25 members of the Pacific Islands trade mission which will leave on July 5 for a five-week selling tour of eight countries in the South Pacific area. The mission represents a wide range of industries producing goods for which a market, or potential market, exists in the Pacific. The 25-member party under the leadership of Mr R. H. Stewart. Christchurch, will visit Fiji, Tonga. Niue Island, American and Western Samoa, Tahiti, New Caledonia and the New Hebrides. Yesterday the first full meeting of members was held in Wellington. Mr Stewart said the party was made up of leading executives prepared and able to negotiate and make decisions on the spot. The New Zealand Trade Commissioner to the Pacific Islands, Mr Davies, said the project was well-timed. He was sure it would make a major impact on the Pacific area, and felt that it could achieve one of its objectives, to double the sale of New Zealand manufactured goods in the islands. The mission members will assemble at Auckland on July 5, and that evening will leave for Nandi. The party is scheduled to return to New Zealand from Noumea on August 10.
