N.Z.’s Action Queried (Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, June'2l. "I believe New Zealand jumped a little too quickly into Thailand with a force,” said Mr J Mathison (Opposition, Avon) in the House of Representatives debate tonight on members’ Southeast Asian tours
People in Bangkok told him that' they were disappointed at the actions of SEA T O and feared their country was goiqg to be used as a battlefield between communism and Western freedom, he said Mr Mathison recommended the stepping up of New Zealand’s contribution to the Colombo Plan.
“I would like to think optimistically of South-east Asia, that one day it will become a great market for our products.” he said
Mr Mathison said he had been shocked to learn that New Zealand housewives in .Malaya had to eat Australian i butter , • They could not eat New {Zealand butter because of its rancid condition when rt arrived, he bad been told.
