President’s Speech At Conference (N.Z. Press Association) PALM. NORTH, June 20. “The strength and success of our ever-growing organisation is based on the enthusiasm of the club members,’’ said Miss M. I. Johnston. Dominion president of the New Zealand Federation of Country Girls’ Clubs, in her presidential address at the annual meeting today. "They are the backbone of our movement,” she added. One overseas tour had been won by Miss Marjorie Case iWaiuku'. who went to New South Wales, and Miss Marion Tosh (Queensland), who had just finished a tour here.

Further competition results announced this morning were:—Radio leadership, Mrs A Hill (Auckland); public speaking (Clematic Cup), Mrs A. Hill (Auckland). National essay writing: Miss M. Hawke (Christchurch) 1, Miss E. Lawlor (Eastern Southland) 2, Miss M. Lister (Feilding) 3. Wool Board knitting competition. North Island: Miss B. Burke (Mangitoko) 1 and 3. Miss B. Snellgrave (Cambridge) 2. South Island: Miss M. Petrie (Ohoka) 1. Miss R. Campbell (Mavfield) 2. Miss M. Tyson (Ellesmere) 3. National prize: Miss B. Burke.
