LOTTERY MARBLES
First 50,000 . In Drum (N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 20. The first 50.000 of 250.000 black nylon plastic marbles for the drawing of the Golden Kiwi lottery were poured into the large stainless steel drawing drum and securely locked this morning. The drum will be unlocked next Tuesday when another 50,000 marbles will be poured in. The Miramar factory is producing the marbles, each with its distinctive gold leaf numbers. as fast as possible but it is not yet known when the last of the 250,000 will be ready. Once they are in the drum, the new system of drawing will begin. As the Minister of Internal Affairs <Mr Gotz) poured in the first box he said everything was being done to see that no number was missed. The 250,000 marbles, when in the drum, will weight just more than a ton.
When the new drawing system operates, each marble will be drawn from the drum and not replaced. Thus each ticket-holder in the particular draw will have only the one chance. Under the present system it is possible to win more than one prize with the one ticket. After each drawing, the drawn marbles will be checked and returned to the drum for the next drawing.
