NORTH-SOUTH TRANSPORT
Effect Of Rail Ferry (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 19. The railroad ferry, Aramoana, would make New Zealand one place so far as road transport operators were concerned, Mr R. A Young, of Christchurch, told the No. 8 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr J. ‘S. Haywood) today. Mr Young was one of several counsel appearing for transport operators who are seeking amendments to their goods and passenger service licences to enable them to operate in both the North and South Islands.
The hearing is concernetl generally with three main groups—household removals, the carrying of new furniture, and transport of tourists.
Mr L. C. Browm said the Railways Department did not object to existing continuous passenger service licences relating to tourists being amended to permit tours to embrace both North and South Islands provided the same vehicle was used throughout the tour and that the starting points of tours remained unchanged.
