MOTORWAY AT NELSON

Investigation Approved (N.Z. Presr Association) WELLINGTON. June 20 A motorway through Nelson to Richmond will be investigated by the District Commissioner of Works, the National Roads Board decided today. Estimated traffic increases within the next 20 years justified the planning of an expressway capable of development to a full motorway, said the Director of Roading, Mr J. H. T. Macky, in the recommendation before the board.

Brightwater and Wakefield would require controlled access deviations within this period but an express route south of Richmond should not be required for 20 years, said Mr Macky. Further investigations approved by the board were a first stage deviation at Richmond and alternative deviations at Brightwater and Wakefield.

These routes, when finally approved, will be a board requirement for inclusion in tht district scheme plan.
