LEADING UMPIRE

One of the leading hockey umpires in Canterbury is Mr R. H Campbell, whose control of matches in the various grades during the last few seasons has been characterised by a sound understanding and application of the obstruction rule. This is the most difficult rule in the book and causes considerable confusion. Its interpretation requires some knowledge of hockey skills and techniques, and a clear policy on the part of an umpire.

Mr Campbell’s adjudication is sound and consistent, and easy for the players to follow. His logical rulings suggest that he should soon be officiating in many representative fixtures.
