Success At Two Sports
TWO well-known Canterbury athletes, D. E. Cro■when and B. Molloy have been 'performing creditably in the Mid-Canterbury Rugby ■Union's senior grade competition this season.
• Crowhen, a former Canterbury senior mile champion tand a runner-up in the pro’vincial half-mile championship, has impressed his I speed and tackling on the i wing for Old Boys. He has •been a great asset to his J team, which is third in the < senior competition. He has t scored five tries in inter-club ' matches
* Crowhen. who is 22, has ,not taken part in athletics .for more than a year and it ■is doubtful if he will take '.up the sport actively again. At Christchurch Boys’ High
School in 1958. Crowhen was in the school’s first fifteen for a short period before taking up harriers as a winter sport. At half-back for Methven, Molloy has this year scored three tries. He is very quick and feeds his backs with accurate passes. Methven is leading in the competition. Molloy, aged 19, was a successful competitor for Canterbury while a junior athlete. gaining a third place in the national two-mile championships in 1961. Last year, he was one of Canterbury’s most prominent junior harriers, running for the Christchurch club. Olympic. He has had previous Rugby experience, being a MidCanterbury representative in a lower grade before switching to harriers two seasons ago.
