PATTERN OF BETTING
Evidence On T.A.B. (N.Z. Press Assn —Copyright) SYDNEY. June 19. Fewer New Zealanders now were betting in £5 or higher units than they had done in the past. the general manager of the Totalisator Agency Board in New Zealand (Mr M. B. Smythe) said yesterday. He was giving evidence at the resumed hearing of the New South Wales Royal Commission into offcourse betting. Mr Smythe said the average bet in New Zealand had diminished and tthe T.A.B had converted the public to a saner form of betting. He thought the betting volume had decreased because people were finding other things cn which to spend their money. Mr Smythe told the Royal Commissioner (Mr Justice Kinsella' that as far as he knew. New Zealanders seemed to be satisfied with
the T.A.B. There was no clamour for the introduction of a general off-course book-making-betting system.
