HEPATITIS CASES
Big Increase Last Month Seventeen cases of infective hepatitis were confirmed in the Christchurch health district last month. There were only nine in April. • This is the seasonal increase which comes in late au’umn.” said the Medical Officer of Health (Dr. L. F Jepson). Other cases of notifiable diseases confirmed last month included 10 of pulmonary and two of non-pul-monary tuberculosis, two of eclampsia, one of hydatids and three of malaria. The hydatids case was that of a city woman who had been infected a number of years ago. The three malaria cases were all returned servicemen from Malaya who had had a relapse. Timaru District Notifiable diseases reported in the Timaru health district during the week ended on June 16 were one of bacillary dysentery, two of pulmonary tuberculosis, two of nonpulmonary tuberculosis and one of hydatids.
