Pakistan, playing its final game before the second test at Lord’s on Thursday, regained a lot of lost prestige yesterday by finishing well placed against the strong Yorkside side in spite of early setbacks.
The Pakistanis, after losing six for 151 in reply to Yorkshire’s 246, gained a first innings lead of 39. thanks to some bright betting by the tailenders.
Then in the final hour they captured four Yorkshire wickets for 23. Mahmood s seam bowling bringing him three for 11 in eight overs, seven of them maidens.
Han if (42) and Javed Burki (43) were the only batsmen early on to achieve much for the touring team but a seventh wicket stand of 56 in three-quarters of an hour between Nasim-Ul-Ghani and Alim-Ud-Din, changed the situation. The left-handed Nasim. who made 63 in 105 minutes, with a six and 10 fours, added 53 for the eighth wicket with Mahmood, to give the tourists their first innings lead.
