MACUATA AT TAURANGA
Repairs Made To Pump (N.Z. Press Association) TAURANGA, June 19. With four feet of water in her engine-room, the crippled 90 foot trawler Macuata, under tow from Gisborne to Auckland, reached the port of Tauranga about 1 p.m. today. The Macuata was beached at Whangara, near Gisborne, a week ago when leaks developed, and was refloated on Saturday afternoon by an Auckland tug, the Otapiri, which has her under tow at present. On the tow to Auckland, a large portable pump installed in the trawler blocked up and became unusable. The Macuata had been making water since 3 a.m. today and it was decided to call at Mount Maunganui to carry out repairs to the pump. At the Mount Maunganui wharf, members of the Mount Maunganui Fire Brigade, who had been standing by since 8 a.m., pumped the ship dry and a Tauranga engineering firm carried out repairs to the trawler’s pump. The Macuata is expected to resume her journey to Auckland at 6.30 a.m. tomorrow.
