Electra at Whenuapai yesterday morning caused the aircraft ’ from Sydney to arrive at Christchurch airport one hour late last evening. The aircraft with the mechanical fault, which was to have flown direct to Sydney, was grounded and another Electra at Whenuapai had to be used. This aircraft left an hour behind time. Sugar Tanker A stainless stee] articulated tanker began delivering liquid sugar to food manufacturers and breweries in Auckland last week. This method is used overseas but is new to New Zealand. The tanker has a capacity of 2000 gallons, equal to seven tons of dry sugar. The liquid sugar is pumped straight from the tanker to the tanks of the purchaser. Hive In The Ground Bees are behaving in a most unusual manner on the hillside of Mr B. Berryman. New Plymouth. A swarm has taken over a former wasps’ nest in the ground. Mr E. R. Brewster, a bee-keeper for 40 years, said he had never known bees to make a hive in the ground before. Fast Trip The Anchor Shipping Company's coastaF vessel Titoki made what is regarded as a record loading and discharge last week. She left Greymouth last Tuesday night with 800 tons of coal for New Plymouth, and covered the 500 miles return voyage, including her discharging time, in 72 hours. The Titoki arrived back in Greymouth on Friday night, was loaded with a further 800 tons, and sailed for Castlecliff at 12.30 p.m. on Saturday. Excursion Train Nearly 300 persons travelled on the excursion train to Arthur’s Pass yesterday. The weather at Arthur’s Pass was fine but it began to rain a short time before the train left. A young woman suffered facial injuries when she was accidentally pushed off the train as it was stopping at Springfield, when passengers rushed to get refreshments on the return journey. She was treated bv a member of the St. John Ambulance Association. Three policemen, including two in plain clothes, travelled on the train. One constable described the behaviour of the passengers as reasonable. The lights in one of the carriages were deliberately fused. A chaindriven steel paddle mounted over the stern provides the orvpulsion Cirrus is 35ft long and has a 17ft 6in beam with a deck area that covers 700 sq. ft There is a wheel house 15ft above the water line and aft there is an enclosed sun deck.
