President From Holland

Mr Frits Philips, who spent a short time in Christchurch yesterday morning before flying to Australia, is president of the world-wide Philips organisation, which has its headquarters at Eindhoven, Holland. He is a son of one of the co-founders of the firm. Dr. Anton Philips, and is in his late fifties. Mr Philips obtained his electrical engineering degree at Delft University, and joined his father’s firm as a junior electronics engineer His father was determined that he would reach the top only through his own merits as a worker -and administrator. He succeeded his brother-in-law. Mr P. F S Otten, as president He last visited New Zealand in 1951. On this visit he has spent only a few days in the country.
