The Christchurch West High School Old Pupils’ Ccrrifciined Associations held a ball at the Winter Garden on Saturday evening, attended by about 300 guests. Specially invited guests included Mr T. R. Richards, headmaster cf the school, and Mrs Richards; Mr C A. Noble; Mr and Mrs H. R. Peers; and representatives of kindred associations. Mrs T. R. Richards wore a ■formal gown of royal blue chiffon featuring a scooped neck and V back with a swathed waist above a fully gathered skirt. Mrs B. Ferrand, president of the old girls’ association, wore a full-length frock of red brocade made with a s V neckline and fully gathered skirt. •
Mrs M. Richards, wife of the president of the old boys’ association, chose a formal gown of midnight blue delustered satin featuring a scalloped neckline and overlap skirt. Two replicas of the school crest were prominent among the decorations in the ballroom. Pink and gold flax pods, silvered bracken, gold leaves and red berries were artistically arranged in the foyer. Sprays of early spring flowers and foliage were set on the supper tables. Arrangements of everlasting flowers, driftwood, berries and variegated leaves were placed at vantage points in the lounge. The floral decorations were the work of Mesdames D. Wyse, N. Timms and members of the committee.
The ball committee was— Mesdames B Ferrand, R. Hughes, A. Elliott, Miss R. Quartermain, Messrs M. Richards, G. Thomson, R. Hughes, R. Burness.
