FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A deepening depression near the Chatham Islands is moving south-east. An anticyclone centred over the western Tasman Sea is moving east-north-east. Forecast:— Canterbury.—Variable winds, tending north-east on the coast, a few light showers about Banks Peninsula at first, otherwise partly cloudy; moderate day temperatures. Outlook: fine, but cloud increasing. Westland and Buller.—Light or moderate variable winds; partly cloudy; moderate day temperatures. Outlook: cloud increasing and rain developing from the south. Nelson and Inland Marlborough.—Variable winds; fine; moderate temperatures. Outlook: cloud increasing. Coastal Marlborough.—South to south-west winds, strong in Cook Strait; scattered showers early, otherwise partly cloudy; moderate afternoon temperatures. Outlook: fine.
