Standard Of Packing

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, March 14. The standard of fish packing had improved in the last three years, the chairman of the Fishing Advisory Council <Mr M. W. Young) told the Parliamentary Committee on the Fishing Industry today. Replying to Mr D. Macintyre (Government. Hastings*, he said the trouble was with fish which were not "sparkling fresh” when landed. Or they might be packable at 4 am. when landed, but by the time the packing staff arrived at 6 am. they had lost their “pristine freshness.”

This slight difference affected the final product, Mr Young said.

There was no official inspection of the fish. If the packer found one really tjad. he asked the Health Department to condemn it.
