Inter-Station Event
The annual Royal New Zealand Air Force interstation summer sports tournament will begin at Wigram on Saturday. About 160 athletes from eight stations will be attending the fourday tournament.
The principal sports will be athletics, swimming and tennis. Athletics teams will compete for the Royal Australian Air Force Punchbowl, awarded to the station gaining most points. In th a tennis t-wramcnt trophies will be awarded to the winners of the singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, and the winning station will r-.eive the Calder Cup. Another trophy will be awarded to the team gaining most points in swimming competitions. Preliminaries will be held in each of the sports on Saturday, Sunday and Monday The main swimming event takes place in the Centennial Poo] on Monday evening and will take the form of a water carnival. Several top Canterbury swimmers have been invited to compete in special events. The athletic finals will be held on the main sports area at Wigram next Tuesday afternoon. At the conclusion of the inter-station meeting. R.N.Z.A.F. teams will be selected to take part in the inter-service tournament at Burnham Military Camp at the end of the week.
