Lead Changes In Contest

AUCKLAND. March 14

A 4471 b thresher shark was the biggest fish caught in the international deep sea fishing contest today. It was taken by G. N. Brown, of Eltham. for G. Honeyfield’s team at Mayor Island. (snly one other boat of the 12 taking part at Mayor Island registered a catch. This was a 611 b yellowtail by D. R. Putt, of Auckland. Twenty-seven fish were taken today at the six bases —seven at Whangarei, six at Tauranga. five at Kawau, four at Mercury Bay, three at Bay of Islands and two at Whangaroa. Over the three days, 95 fish have been caught—33 at Whangarei, 18 at Tauranga, 16 at Mercury Bay, 13 at Bay of Islands. 11 at Kawau and four at Whangaroa. Championship points to date (one point for each lb of fish and 100 for the biggest catch each day) are:—G. Honeyfield (Tauranga), 735, 1; E. H. Oliver (Mercury Bay), 657, 2; C. W. McNaul (Tauranga), 490. 3; G. Perry (Panair International Sportsmen’s Club, Honolulu), 382.3, 4; J. Belfield (Whangarei), 321, 5; R. Kirchler (Whangaroa), 309, 6; C. Thomason (Mercury Bay), 308.5, 7; N. Failrie (Tauranga), 236, 8; W. R. Hanning (Whangarei), 228, 9: F. W. Port (Tauranga), 220, 10; E. W. Palmer (South Australia), 192, 11; F. R.
