BUILDING PLAN
Completion Next Year
The architect engaged to plan the buildings and toll plaza area (Mr P. Beaven) would be visiting Wellington to discuss with the Ministry of Works the design of the buildings and the siting. Mr W. S. Mac Gibbon. the chair man, reported to the Christ-church-Lyttelton Road Tunnel Authority yesterday. Mr Beaven estimated that if the briei was received by the end of March, working drawings would be produced ready for tendering by July 30. The time to construct the building ready for services would be September, 1963; and the time to install all services mid-December, 1963. Mr L G. Amos commented that on the experience of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Authority, the requirements of the building needed to be tied closely in with staffing.
“Yes, but we must make sure there is no empire building.’ Mr Mac Gibbon said.
Mr Mac Gibbon reported that the general-manager (Mr L H Wilson) would take up his duties on July 30. Now the authority was reaching a “crucial” stage, it should meet more often, Mr Amos said.
The chairman agreed that “now we are reaching the point where we may have to make urgent decisions" there might need to be special meetings outside the normal monthly meetings.
