NEW SPINAL UNIT

Early Use At Hospital

An early start will be made with the new spinal injury unit without waiting for toe completion of toe unit’s accommodation at the Princess Margaret Hospital, the North Canterbury Hospital Board decided yesterday.

“When Mr G M. Bedbrook, of Perth, visited us ’ast month to advise about, toe unit, he emphasised bow important it was to get toe unit going, irrespective of buildings.” said Mr L- A. Bennett. “The patients* lives have to be safced, and this cannot wait for buildings. We can move the unit into its permanent quarters when they are ready, but toe important thing now is to get started.”

It was agreed that the part-time director of the unit, Mr W. L. F. Utley, should be asked to start the work of the unit as soon as possible, attending initially for two sessions a week.
