Trailer Signs

Sir, —I was amazed to learn that the parking of a dozen or more 'bailers (complete with cheap-looking calico signs) had been sanctioned by the City Council. With so many visitors in our midst for our festival celebrations it would be to the good if our streets were tidied up rather than cluttered up. All legitimate methods of advertising are open to the promoters of this particular gospel crusade but by their exploitation, of our thoroughfares they are going too far. Parking in our streets is at a premium and these up-ended vehicles are not “on the outer perimeter” by any means. One of these portable hoardings is dumped a few yards outside the mile radius from Cathedral square. The way is now open for all and sundry to exploit this form of cheap publicity. What a lovely prospect!—Yours, etc, THIN EDGE OF THE WEDGE.
