Art Competition

Sir, —After reading JJN.K.’s criticism, one feels it fair to inquire if people are to be permanently condemned to this kind of text-book reasoning and Eric Newton jargon. That Sir Daryl Lindsay is judge is enough. Besides, most people who know something * about the subject, its petty little cliques, and its self-inter-ested parties, are sick and tired of your critic’s exaltation of the little group of “arty crafties” in which he moves, and appears to have his being. Must we have thrust down our throats, directly or indirectly, that there is untold, unappreciated beauty in the colous of black, and the abysmal tones of brown, green, and blue. One wonders how far obsession can go.—Yours, etc, RASPBERRY. February 28, 1962.
