Presentation To Matron.— A tribute to the work of the retiring matron of Essex Maternity Hospital (Miss A. Crisp) was paid at a function in her honour by Dr. A. M. Hartnell, medical director of the hospital. Dr. Hartnell presented Miss Crisp with an oil painting and a cheque in appreciation of her work as matron at Essex since 1940. About 30 to 40 members of the medical profession and past and present staff members attended the gaitoering. Canterbury C.W.l.—The Canterbury Federation of Country Women’s Institutes recently held a combined group picnic at Cheviot. On arrival members were welcomed by the North Canterbury federation president (Mrs G. Grossen), the Cheviot Institute president (Mrs M. I. Honeybone) and the Cheviot group secretary (Mrs J. Ferris). Visiting members were conducted by local members to the local Domain, to Gore Bay and to the Cheviot Community Centre.
