100 YEARS OLD
Miss Bussell,
Of Timaru
(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, Feb. 28.
The oldest resident in the South Canterbury Presbyterian Social Service Association’s Margaret Wilson Home. Seddon street, Timaru, Miss A. S. Bussell, is 100 today. She will celebrate her birthday in the Timaru Hospital, end will have a cake with one candl , for afternoon tea with friends and relations. Born in Ashcombe, Devon. Miss Bussell came to New Zealand with her parents, Mr and Mrs John Bussell in the Merope, which arrived at Timaru on September 25. 1875. Her father was employed at Parr's foundry, and in later years took up farming. Miss Bussell was a milliner. Her main interests are embroidery, and gardening. The superintendent of the association (the Rev. D. D.
MacLachlan) said it had been hoped to have a little party at the home, where there were several “oldsters” but Miss Bussell was still in hospital. “She told me she had lived hopefully, a day at a time, •nd had a quiet faith, that a person did not set a goal with regard to years, but just seemed to arrive at it," said Mr MacLachlan.
