UNREGISTERED RAM FAIR
Depressed Market At Tinwald Following the trend of the season and with an oversupply of sheep, rams at the unregistered fair at Tinwald yesterday met a depressed market, with much lower prices than were realised last year. There were about 160 pens entered and about half the yarding was sold Last year, there were 140 pens in the sale, with very few passings, although many of last yearns entries did not make very high prices. The sale, held in very fine weather, attracted only a small gallery, with fewer buyers than last year. There was no demand for any rams which were not well grown and well brought out. but bidding for the top pens was brisk and Interest in these sheep was keen. Top price for the sale was llgns. for a pen of HampshireSouthdown cross rams. Tills was less than half the top price of last year's lair, when a pen of the same type of sheep realised 23gns. In the Southdown section, the top price was 10|gns, compared with 17gns last year, while the top price paid for Border Leicester sheep was 44gns. as against ifigns last year. A range of values was:— Southdown-Border Leicester cross.—Best, to Bgns; average, to 6}gns. South Suffolk.—Best, to Bgns; §ood, 6}gns to 71gns; average, gns to sgns. Hampshire-Southdown crossBest, to llgns; good, 9gns to lOgns. Border Leicester. Average. 34gns to 4Jgns. Southdown. —Best to lOJgns: good, Bgns to Signs; average to good. Signs to 7gns; average, to i sgns. Others—Southdown - South Suffolk cross at 3gns: South-down-Dorset Horn cross at s}gns: Southdown-Ryeland bross at Sens.
