School Needs More Land

The City Council had refused a request for a quarteracre section for use as a swimming t>ath site for Mairehau High School. Mr A B Ryan, the headmaster, told the school's interim board of governors. Mr Ryan said he had asked the council to give the £l5OO section to the school as a city contribution. He said the section was immediately behind another given to the school for that purpose by the Waimair i County Council. Waimairi had made its section available on the condition that the pool was made available to the general community out of school hours Formerly the site of the Mairehau Public Hall, ttie section was in itself insufficient for building a pool.
