RELUCTANT BIGAMIST
Man Bound Over (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) SWINDON (England), February 28. A nine-stone man complained in Court today that a woman he met as a penfriend “dragged” him to the Registry Office to get married and then locked him in her house so that he could not “take off.” Mr Edward Hobbs, aged 41, a hospital porter, was bound over for a year after pleading guilty to bigamously marrying the woman, Mrs Margaret Bond. The Judge told the reluctant bridegroom: “I am satisfied that you committed this offence when your will was overborne by the woman in question.” The prosecutor, describing ft as a “somewhat astonishing story,” said Hobbs had met Mrs Bond on several occasions but had failed to tell her he was already married.
Hobbs said afterwards: “I am going to take a two-week holiday to recover from the ordeal.”
