Few Workers Unemployed

University students and teachers working over the long vacation have returned to academic studies, thus leaving job vacancies. Yesterday the Department of Labour in Christchurch reported 22 registered as unemployed, 16 of whom are drawing unemployment benefit. Two women were registered as unemployed, with one drawing unemployment benefit. Last month 25 men and three women were registered as unemployed. At the end of February last year 25 men and 11 women were registered as unemployed. “There is not a particularly large number of vacancies: on the other hand, not many are seeknig work,” the district superintendent of the Labour Department (Mr C. P. Collins) said yesterday.
